Dr. Dixon is a native of southwestern North Dakota where he grew up on his family’s cattle ranch. Growing up in this environment taught him humility, a strong work ethic, and appreciation for the rural lifestyle.
Following his training, Dr. Dixon has practiced orthopedic spine surgery for 7 years in the Dakotas. His love for the outdoors has brought him to the beautiful Bitterroot Valley and Missoula, MT.
Dr. Dixon is listed as a co author on scientific articles published in peer reviewed journals. He is committed to teaching the next generation of students and is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery with the Idaho College of Ostoepathic Medicine.
Dr. Dixon will see common and more complex problems of the spine. These include conditions affecting cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and the sacrum. He specializes in both adult and pediatric conditions of the spine. He specializes in degenerative conditions of the spine, traumatic injuries of the spine, and selected deformities of the spine. Dr. Dixon sees a wide array of spinal pathologies. Most often these conditions can be treated non surgically. Dr. Dixon will carefully select conditions that will respond favorably to surgery and that have initially been treated non surgically.
Examples of surgeries Dr. Dixon can provide when surgery is indicated are: microdiscectomy, laminectomy/laminoforaminotomy, kyphoplasty, lumbar and cervical fusions, lumbar and cervical disc replacements, SI joint fusion, tumor ablation of the spine, revision surgery of the spine and selected adult deformity procedures. Dr. Dixon attempts to use minimally invasive techniques (MIS) whenever possible for performance of surgery. These include techniques such as: ALIF, OLIF, XLIF, LLIF, MIS TLIF, or tubular surgery.
Additionally, Dr. Dixon is trained in the latest techniques in spine surgery including robotic assisted surgery of the spine. Dr. Dixon uses robotic surgery to help minimize the invasiveness of surgery and increase the safety of the procedure.
Dr. Dixon is a member of AO Spine of North America, the National Association of Spine Surgery, the Montana Orthopedic Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
When Dr. Dixon is not doing spine surgery, he enjoys hunting, fishing, attending his children’s sports, spending time with his family outdoors and just generally enjoying all that the beautiful state of MT has to offer.
